For 25 years Angelique has taken in horses given up through abuse or neglect. On the French domain they live free and loved, for the rest of their days.
At Hearts for Horses everything is about taking in forgotten animals. Horses that were neglected, left to their fate, or were on their way to slaughter. On the French domain they can finally live the way it was meant to be: without pressure, in peace, with all the space to be themselves.
Hearts for Horses is the foundation that began with the horses. Over more than fifteen years Angelique took in more than 35 horses. Today, under the name Hearts for Animals, we also care for cats, dogs, chickens and roosters, more than 90 animals in all.

I am Angie. More than 25 years ago I rescued my first horse. In the Netherlands I went on to take in more than 35 horses, alongside cats, dogs and many others, all from my own means. In 2022 I sold everything and moved to France, where the animals deserved more space. Today more than 90 animals live here. All of this without subsidies, without large sponsors, without organisations standing by. Every fence, every stable, every vet bill, paid out of my own pocket. Carried by one pair of hands, day after day. It takes perseverance. But when you see a frightened animal slowly come to rest, you know why you keep going.
Hearts for Horses is not one moment, it is twenty-five years of daily care. In that time Angelique took in more than 35 horses. The most important steps.
Angelique rescues her first horse. A discarded racehorse who stays with her for 25 years and lives to 30, free and loved.
Stichting Hearts for Horses is founded, with ANBI status and RSIN 854838132.
A move to a French domain with enough land to give the whole family room to live.
More than 90 animals, including the horses, live safely on the domain. And more are coming.
What began small has grown into Domaine de Soleil: fifteen hectares of land in France where more than ninety animals live. The horses as a herd, with access to walk-in shelters, alongside the cats, the dogs, the chickens and roosters. Cared for every day, all year round.
Milestones, new animals and steps forward on the domain. Follow the growth of Hearts for Horses.

A small part of a family of more than 90 rescued animals. We intentionally do not show everyone, for the calm of the horses.
Then and nowStormy came from the racetrack. He won prizes and brought in a lot of money, and was then discarded. When I found him, the photos from the hospital showed full arthrosis, a lung disease and more. The vets declared him incurable and no one saw a future for him anymore. I did. With me he went on to live another 25 years, free and loved. Stormy was the start of everything, and the reason more than 90 animals live safely in France today.
Support his legacyTwo wild horses, completely discarded in France. The only option still on the table was to shoot them. Now they are here, safe on the domain. Terrified of people, but they have the time they need. Their feed, their care, their future: that is what you make possible.
