We provide a lifelong sanctuary for horses rescued from neglect, abuse, or abandonment. Here, they can live as horses should, free, safe, and loved.
At Hearts for Horses, everything revolves around giving forgotten animals a second chance. Horses that were neglected, abandoned, or facing slaughter finally have the opportunity to live as nature intended. On our sanctuary in the French countryside, they can live free from pressure, surrounded by peace, and with all the space they need to simply be themselves.
Founded in 2015, Hearts for Horses has provided a lifelong home to more than 35 rescued horses. Today, under the name Hearts for Animals, we also care for cats, dogs, chickens, and roosters. Together, we provide a safe, loving, and permanent home for more than 90 rescued animals, where they can live in freedom, dignity, and peace.

My name is Angelique, founder of Hearts for Horses. More than 25 years ago, I rescued my first horse. What started with one animal grew into a lifelong commitment to animals that had nowhere else to go. In the Netherlands, I gave more than 35 horses a safe and permanent home, alongside cats, dogs, and many other animals. This was done without government funding, without major sponsors, and without organizations standing ready to help. Every fence, every shelter, every veterinary bill, and every bale of hay was paid for from my own resources, day after day, year after year. In 2022, I sold everything I owned and moved to France, so the animals could have the space, peace, and freedom they deserved. What began with one rescued horse has grown into a sanctuary for animals in need. Today, more than 90 rescued animals live here. It takes perseverance. But when you see a frightened animal slowly begin to trust again, a neglected horse find peace, or an animal finally feel safe, you understand why we continue.
Hearts for Horses is not a single moment. It is daily care for animals in need since its founding in 2015.

A move to a French domain with enough land to give the whole family room to live.
More than 90 animals, including the horses, live safely on the domain. And more are coming.
What began small has grown into Domaine de Soleil: a large stretch of land in France where more than ninety animals live. The horses as a herd, with access to walk-in shelters, alongside the cats, the dogs, the chickens and roosters. Cared for every day, all year round.

A small part of a family of more than 90 rescued animals. We intentionally do not show everyone, for the calm of the horses.
Then and nowStormy came from the racetrack. He won prizes and brought in a lot of money, and was then discarded. When I found him, the photos from the hospital showed full arthrosis, a lung disease and more. The vets declared him incurable and no one saw a future for him anymore. I did. With me he went on to live another 25 years, free and loved. Stormy was the start of everything, and the reason more than 90 animals live safely in France today.
Support his legacyTwo wild horses, completely discarded in France. The only option still on the table was to shoot them. Now they are here, safe on the domain. Terrified of people, but they have the time they need. Their feed, their care, their future: that is what you make possible.
